Three weeks after a school shooting took place in Parkland, Florida where 14 high school students, a teacher and a coach were killed, Senate education Chairman Lamar Alexander spoke on the Senate floor about the School Safety and Mental Health Services Improvements Act. The new legislation was introduced on Wednesday and could help Rutherford County and Murfreesboro City Schools add more school counselors… The bill would also help to pay for security cameras, safety infrastructure, better entrances and exits and more.

Hi folks,
When I was 10 years old , I lived in Smyrna Tennfor about a year.
This was back in 1962.
My uncle was in the air force and we lived off the base .
I seem to remember that there was a tasti freez or the same type of ice cream place on the corner of a main road, that we used to go to.
There was also a Western auto, not to far from there ,that was more like a department store.
I would buy fishing equipment etc. in there.
I’m wondering if anyone out there, remembers the locations that I am talking about, and the road that they were on.
I may be plannng a trip to Tenn. and would love to show my kids the area.

I believe you are talking about what is know Ace Hardware in gills villets shopping center. It is on Sam Ridley pkwy. You wouldn’t believe that area now. We just had a blue angel crash his jet right there this past year.

I would definitely do some research online before making the trip. The population is probably four times what it was. When you were there, Nashville had less than 170,000 people. Now it has around 700,000 and its metropolitan area includes over 1.8 million. Think Metro Cincinnati for comparison. It continues to be booming, too. You remember Murfreesboro as a country town; now it has over 100,000 people and is home to the largest university in the state. The whole area is one huge mess of traffic and construction gridlock. In short, you may not recognize anything from your childhood anymore. It may have all been bulldozed down and built over by now. I would check before planning a trip if you live very far away.
